Introduction

Learning for Life and Work is delivered discretely to all students in Years 8 to 10.

In Years 11 and 12, students study GCSE Learning for Life and Work or Prince’s Trust Personal Development and Employability. There are currently 7 GCSE classes and 2 PDE classes within the department.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Uniformed Protective Services is offered to Year 13 and Year 14. There are two classes within the department.

Learning is supported by a range of workshops and visitors from local charities and public bodies to different classes throughout the year.

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3, the girls cover the three strands of Local and Global Citizenship, Employability and Personal Development.

Local and Global Citizenship helps students to learn how to participate positively in society, influence democratic processes and make informed and responsible decisions as local and global citizens throughout their lives. Local and Global Citizenship is based on 4 themes which are addressed in local, national and global contexts.

These are:

• Human Rights and Social Responsibility
• Diversity and Inclusion
• Equality and Social Justice
• Democracy and Active Participation

Through Employability lessons, students will have the opportunity to develop their personal qualities, skills, knowledge, understanding and attitudes that will give them a strong foundation for lifelong learning and work.

Employability covers the key concepts of:

• Work in the Local and Global Economy
• Career Management
• Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

Personal Development helps students to cope with the challenges of everyday life in their development toward adulthood. It encourages each student to become emotionally, socially and physically effective enabling them to lead healthy and safe lives. They learn how to make informed and responsible decisions and are encouraged to become independent and responsible citizens.

Lessons will cover the key concepts of:

• Self-Awareness
• Personal Health
• Relationships
