Congratulations to our Rock Challenge team

Ashfield Girls Rock Challenge team of 134 pupils has just returned from competing in the Northern Premier Final of the competition in Grimsby. Ashfield are the only Northern Ireland team in the Premier League and as such take great pride in the fact that they not only represent their school but also their country.

Twelve schools in total competed in the competition. We were delighted when Ashfield came second – an amazing achievement for all the girls who range from Year 8 to Year 14. In addition we received five other special awards

  • Best costume (thanks to our designer extraordinaire, Joan McKeown)
  • Best lighting design
  • Award for Healthy Lifestyle
  • Award for Inclusivity
  • Award for Most Entertaining

Finally our thanks to all the parents who travelled with us to Grimsby and who have supported us throughout the year with scenery and costume.

The Big Conversation

Top Northern Ireland business leaders and school children took part in a Big Conversation aimed at boosting the job skills of young people.  The event took place on Tuesday 25 May at the Belfast Waterfront.

The new  Business in the Community Campaign – Work Inspiration, in conjunction with the CBI and supported by Northern Bank and UTV Media plc, aims to get more young people and employers involved in valuable work placements.

One of the key issues identified was the gap between the idea a young person has of the world of work and what a business expects from them.

Eleven pupils from Ashfield Girls’ took part in the conference and Sarah Fullerton, 12D, brought great honour to herself and the school when she very competently assisted Jamie Delargy, Business Editor at UTV, in presenting the conference at the Waterfront.  Sarah appeared on UTV Live and you can see the news item here.  Amanda Davidson and Grace Manwa also took part in a one day work experience at Eircom UK Ltd and are to be congratulated on the part they played in making the event a success.  Ashfield Girls’ was one of only six schools across Northern Ireland invited to participate in the programme.
