Mural Painter
Local mural artist Mark Ervine, visited Ashfield on Thursday to talk to 10F about his work. Mark frequently paints with young people from both communities, engaging them on social issues such as racism, and alcohol and drug abuse. His art work has been shown in galleries in the United Kingdom and New York City and he painted the set backdrop to the film, '50 Dead Men Walking'.

Snow Patrol
Bradley Quinn, Snow Patrol’s official photographer, spent Tuesday afternoon helping a group of Year 9 girls with their contribution to the school’s KC3 competition entry.
Bradley discussed his upbringing and education in East Belfast, gave the girls a real insight into his methods of documentary photography, explained the highlights and pressures of working and touring with the band and showed his personal photographic history of Snow Patrol’s success.

Visiting Lecturer
Dr John Thompson, from Queen's University, recently visited Ashfield to give a lecture to the Year 14 English students who are studying Geoffrey Chaucer's 'The Pardoner's Prologue and Tale'. John is an expert in Medieval Studies and we all benefited from his very interesting and enjoyable talk. John has promised to return to work with the students on some revision before they sit their examinations. To view some photos of the visit look in the Gallery.

Theatre Visit
The English Department is planning a trip to see a performance of "Dancing at Lughnasa" on Thursday 25th February. This will be for Year 12 students. If you are interested, speak to your English teacher as soon as possible for further details.
